Why Install a Pressure Sand Filter in Your Water Purifier?

Home Blog Why Install a Pressure Sand Filter in Your Water Purifier?

It is essential to ensure that the water we use for daily consumption and sanitation is free of germs and lurking infections. We use various water purifiers to ensure the water we receive at home is germfree. However, not all filters are reliable, and impurities sometimes seep through filters. In such cases, you need highly efficient and dependable filters to ensure guaranteed purity of your residential water. Introducing a pressure sand filter in your water purifier will be a wise decision to decrease water impurities.

Sand filter technology is the solution for a series of water purification methods. The procedure starts from pre-filtration of disinfection filters, preparing the equipment for micro and ultrafiltration. The filters are also beneficial for recirculating systems, cleaning various water channels, irrigation systems, basin water filtration and underground water cleansing.

Reasons to Get a Pressure Sand Filter in Your Water Purifier

Before we learn about the benefits of the pressure sand filtration system, let us know how sand filters work.

How Does a Sand Filtration System Work?

After the water has passed through the usual filtration process, it still retains certain impurities towards the end. This partially-filtered water is then distributed in the top chamber of the sand filter to sink through the layered filter bed of the filter. The filter bed includes sand, gravel and one other filter medium. The tiny pores in the filter bed ensure that the dirt present in the water cannot pass through the bed. People also add activated carbon filters to enhance the purification process.

What is Sand Filter Backwash?

As soon as a specific volume of water has been filtered or when the filtering sand has reached a considerable amount of pollutants, the sand filter automatically changes to backwashing. When the backwashing process begins, the pores enlarge to wash the dirt trapped in the sand. Subsequently, this dirt is then eliminated along with the backwash water. Backwashing helps the sand filters not get blocked easily while cleansing or post-cleansing, retaining optimal purification qualities.

What Should be the Diameter of the Sand?

The preferred diameter of the sand hugely depends on the size of your sand filter, the intended flow and filtration of the system. In most cases, most filtration processes sand with a diameter ranging between 0.8 mm to 1.25 mm. This calculation, however, may vary for different installations. For example, a UV installation has a comparatively gradual flow, and sand of 0.4 mm to 0.8 mm will be ideal for filtering restrictively.

When the sand diameter is smaller, the resistance of the filter will increase, resulting in less flow. To ensure that the diameter is small in size, you can use a longer filter instead with less capacity for backwashing. Thus, washing off the dirt becomes easier. Also, if you install a smaller sand grain diameter rather than using a larger diameter, you should consider the fact that more regular backwashing is taking place since more dirt is being filtered.

Benefits of Pressure Sand Filter

  • Efficient in Turbidity and TSS Removal.
  • Filtration efficiency goes up to 5.0 ppm suspended impurities.
  • It is easy to operate & maintain.
  • It offers a wide range of filtration materials. Materials provided are sand, gravel, carbon and more.
  • Economically beneficial for production and design
  • Requires less energy to operate
  • It is flexible to seasonal fluctuations in its flow rate

Ensure Timely Maintenance of the Filters

Make sure to check the filling of your sand filter periodically. If you notice the filling clumps together or gets rubbed off, or if your pressure sand filter requires regular backwashing, consider replacing the filling. Also, ensure to maintain the quality of the pressure sand filter well.
